Focus and Scope

Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original research articles and review articles in the field of geomatics: the science and technology of acquiring, processing, analyzing, managing, and presenting spatially referenced data. All submissions must demonstrate a clear geospatial component in their data, methods, or analysis.

The scope of the journal covers the following areas:

  • Surveying and Mapping: terrestrial, cadastral, topographic, and engineering surveys; digital mapping and map production.
  • Positioning and Navigation: GNSS/GPS positioning, geodetic reference frames, and location-based services.
  • Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing: aerial and satellite image acquisition and processing, UAV/drone photogrammetry, LiDAR, and image classification.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS): spatial databases, spatial analysis and modelling, WebGIS, and geospatial artificial intelligence.
  • Hydrographic Surveying: bathymetric mapping, coastal and river surveys, and marine geospatial information.
  • Applied Geomatics: geospatial applications for land administration, natural resources, agriculture and forestry, regional and urban planning, disaster management, and environmental monitoring.

Manuscripts in application domains (e.g., planning, natural resources, disaster management, civil and environmental engineering) are welcome only when geospatial data acquisition, processing, or analysis constitutes the core methodology of the study.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science undergo a structured evaluation process as follows:

  1. Initial screening (editorial pre-review). Within 7 days of submission, an editor checks the manuscript for fit with the journal's focus and scope, compliance with the article template and author guidelines, completeness of the submission, and similarity level (plagiarism screening using similarity-check software, with a maximum tolerated similarity of 25%). Manuscripts that do not meet these minimum standards are returned to the authors (desk rejection or request for revision before review).
  2. Double-blind peer review. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two (2) independent reviewers whose expertise matches the topic of the manuscript. Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science applies a double-blind review policy: the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the process. Editors ensure that all identifying information is removed from the files sent to reviewers.
  3. Review criteria. Reviewers evaluate: the clarity of the research objective and research gap; the presence of an adequate state of the art and explicitly stated novelty; the soundness of the methodology; the scientific interpretation of the findings, including a dedicated comparison of the results with relevant previous studies; the completeness of the conclusion (main findings, limitations, and suggestions for future research); the quality and recency of the references (a minimum of 15 references, at least 80% primary sources published within the last 10 years); and the quality of the writing and its conformity with the journal template.
  4. Editorial decision. Based on the reviewers' reports, the editor makes one of the following decisions: Accept Submission, Revisions Required (minor), Resubmit for Review (major), or Decline Submission. The decision, together with the reviewers' comments, is communicated to the corresponding author. The first-round review process normally takes 4–8 weeks.
  5. Revision. Authors are given up to 4 weeks to submit a revised manuscript accompanied by a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for re-evaluation.
  6. Copyediting and production. Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting (checking of language, template conformity, completeness of tables/figures, and reference formatting), layout editing, and proofreading before publication. The editorial team may return the manuscript to the authors at this stage for final corrections.

Conflict of interest. Editors and reviewers must decline assignments in which a conflict of interest exists. Manuscripts authored by members of the editorial team are handled entirely by other editors who have no involvement with the manuscript, and the author concerned is excluded from all editorial discussions and decisions regarding that manuscript.

 

Publication Frequency

The journal is published biannual in March and September by the Geomatics Technology Study Program, Department of Engineering and Computers, Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda in collaboration with Ikatan Surveyor Indonesia (ISI) / Indonesian Surveyors Association.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Article Processing Charge (APC)

Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science charges no submission fee. Manuscripts are submitted and processed through peer review free of charge.

For accepted manuscripts written by two or more authors, an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 400,000 per article applies, effective for submissions received on or after December 31, 2026. For accepted manuscripts written by a single author, the APC is IDR 700,000 per article, and single-author articles are not eligible for the incentives below; this policy is intended to encourage collaborative research. The following incentives apply to articles written by two or more authors (the largest applicable discount is granted; discounts are not cumulative):

  • Articles written in collaboration by authors from more than two different institutions (three or more affiliations): 50% discount (IDR 200,000).
  • Articles involving at least one co-author with an international (non-Indonesian) affiliation: full waiver (IDR 0).
  • Corresponding authors who are registered members of Ikatan Surveyor Indonesia (ISI): 25% discount (IDR 300,000).
  • Articles whose corresponding author is an active student of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda: full waiver (IDR 0).
  • Articles by lecturers/staff of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda that involve at least one co-author from a different institution: full waiver (IDR 0). Articles authored solely by Politani lecturers/staff without external collaboration are charged the standard APC.

No fee is charged before editorial acceptance, and the ability to pay has no influence on editorial decisions. Authors experiencing financial hardship may apply for a waiver by contacting the editorial office before submission.

 

Publication Ethics

Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science is a peer-reviewed journal. This journal follows guidelines from Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct. This statement clarifies ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, the peer-reviewer and the publisher (Geomatics Technology Study Program, Department of Engineering and Computers, Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda). Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science are dedicated to following best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and the journals do not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science adapts COPE to meet high quality standard of ethics for publisher, editors, authors, and reviewers. As an essential issue, publication ethics needs to be explained clearly to improve the quality of the research worldwide. In this part, we explain the standard for editors, authors, and reviewers. Publisher don’t have right to interfere with the integrity of the contents and only support to publish in timely manner.

For Editors

  1. Based on the review report of the editorial review board, the editor can accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.

  2. Editors should be responsible for every articles published in Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science

  3. The editors may communicate with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.

  4. An editor has to evaluate the manuscript objectively for publication, judging each on its quality without looking to nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors. He/she should decline his/her assignment when there is a potential of conflict of interest.

  5. Editors need to ensure the document sent to the reviewer does not contain the information of the author, vice versa.

  6. Editors’ decision should be informed to authors accompanied by reviewers’ comments unless they contain offensive or libelous remarks.

  7. Editors should respect requests from authors that an individual should not review the submission, if these are well-reasoned and practicable.

  8. Editors and all staffs should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.

  9. Editors will be guided by COPE flowcharts if there is a suspected misconduct or disputed authorship.

For Reviewers

  1. Reviewers need to comment on ethical questions and possible research and publication misconduct.

  2. Reviewers will do the work in timely manner and should notify editor if they can not complete the work.

  3. Reviewers need to keep the confidentiality of the manuscript.

  4. Reviewers should not accept to review the manuscripts in which there is potential conflict of interest between them and any of the authors.

For Authors

  1. Author(s) affirm that the material has not been previously published and that they have not transferred elsewhere any rights to the article.

  2. Author(s) should ensure the originality of the work and they have properly cited others’ work in accordance of the references format.

  3. Author(s) should not engage in plagiarism nor self-plagiarism.

  4. Author(s) should ensure that they follow the authorship criteria that are taken from Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science that is explained in instruction for author of Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science

  5. Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. It is also expected that the author will not publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal.

  6. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have made significant contribution must be listed as co-authors. Authors also ensure that all the authors have seen and agreed to the submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion of names as co-authors.

  7. The author(s) haven’t suggested any personal information that may make the identity of the patient recognizable in any forms of description part, photograph or pedigree.

  8. Author(s) should give the editor the data and details of the work, if there are suspicions of data falsification or fabrication.

  9. If at any point of time, the author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editor.

  10. Authors of the journal should clarify everything that may cause conflict of interests such as work, research expenses, consultant expenses, and intellectual property on the document of Journal of Geomatics Engineering, Technology, and Science form disclosure.
